Taking the Queen
Title: Taking the Queen
Artist: Anawanitia
Medium: Oil
Size: 24 inches by 18 inches
Support: Stretched canvas
Taking the Queen, it depicts layers of stories. On the surface, it shows two queens playing chess on a chessboard, one of them has taken the queen.
Moving onto the landscape, you see the same game being played out by the Queen of Diamonds and Queen of Clubs on an unsettling out-of-proportion, sloped, chessboard-lined ground, where the knight is in position to take the Queen of Clubs.
The intended purpose of the painting, and the real meaning while I was painting it, was that I was trying to work out a personal conflict. The meaning represents the left and right brain and coming to a conclusion, in which the correct decision is being guided by the subconscious mind, represented by the sun.
When I had shown this painting in the past, it was mind-blowing to hear the different perspectives, ideas, truly inspiring meanings and emotions that people felt about it. How do you feel about this painting? Please feel free to discuss in the comments section. Just please remember to be civil, I know art can stir up many emotions.
